A Wesley Chapel man has been arrested following a fatal single-vehicle crash on Bay Pines Drive on Monday, December 1, 2025, at approximately 8:30 p.m.
According to investigators from the Florida Highway Patrol, a Saturn SL1 driven by 37-year-old Robert Christopher Freeman was traveling southbound on Bay Pines Drive when the vehicle left its lane north of Lindenhurst Drive. The car crossed into the northbound lane and struck a tree on the outside shoulder.
A 38-year-old woman from Wesley Chapel, who was riding as a passenger, sustained serious injuries in a crash. After the incident, Freeman left the scene and returned to his home at 28704 Walker Drive, which is about a mile away. Deputies later found him and the injured passenger there. Unfortunately, the woman was transported to a local hospital, where she died from her injuries.
Freeman was not injured. Troopers determined he was impaired, and he provided a breath sample of 0.269. That is over three times the legal limit for impairment in Florida.
He was taken to the Pasco County Jail and charged with DUI Manslaughter and Leaving the Scene of a Crash Involving a Death.
