Investigation Continues After Pinellas Park Man Dies in Jail Following Treatment for Self-Inflicted Injury

PINELLAS COUNTY — Detectives from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) are investigating the death of 56-year-old Matthew Marchione.

Marchione was booked into the Pinellas County Jail by the Pinellas Park Police Department on November 16, 2025, at 3:30 p.m. on one count of simple battery.

On December 3, 2025, at approximately 5:07 p.m., Marchione was observed with a self-inflicted laceration above his right eyebrow and was transported to a hospital for evaluation.

According to PCSO, after returning to the jail around 10:13 p.m., he became unresponsive. Medical and detention staff performed life-saving measures, but Marchione was pronounced dead at 11:01 p.m.

Detectives report no evidence of Marchione being involved in any physical altercations while in custody.

His next of kin have been notified, and the investigation is ongoing.
