HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY — A 38-year-old man has been arrested after authorities say he shot a door-to-door solicitor in a townhome community on February 18, 2026, at approximately 8 p.m.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office 911 Dispatch Center received a call reporting a shooting in the area of Fluorshire Drive at the Providence Townhomes. When deputies arrived, they located an adult male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his lower body. Deputies began rendering aid at the scene. The victim was transported to a local hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
Detectives determined the victim and his female co-worker were soliciting telecommunication products and services door-to-door when Reginald McGee, 38, became verbally aggressive toward the female employee. Investigators said the victim and his co-worker began walking away when McGee physically attacked the victim.
During the altercation, deputies said McGee reached into his waistband, removed a firearm, and began shooting at the victim. As the victim attempted to flee, McGee chased him and continued firing until he ran out of ammunition.
According to investigators, McGee then returned to his residence. When deputies arrived, he exited the home armed with a firearm and was taken into custody without further incident.
McGee faces the following charges:
-Attempted Murder in the Second Degree Firearm – Great Bodily Harm
-Aggravated Battery Great Bodily Harm or Deadly Weapon Firearm – Great Bodily Harm/Death
-Discharge of a Firearm in Public or on Residential Property
“This was a completely unnecessary escalation that left a man seriously injured simply for doing his job,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “When a disagreement turns into gunfire, that is a choice, and it is a criminal one. Our deputies acted quickly to take this suspect into custody, giving residents in this neighborhood peace of mind and preventing further harm.”
