NEW PORT RICHEY — Deputies with the Pasco Sheriff’s Office are investigating a deputy-involved shooting that left one man dead and three others injured, including a deputy, in the Davista Avenue and Sawtell Street area of New Port Richey. The incident occurred on Monday, March 9, 2026 at approximately 1:28 p.m.
According to the sheriff’s office, the incident began before deputies arrived when Aaron Rodriguez, 32, shot an adult man who was later pronounced dead at the scene. Rodriguez also shot an adult woman who had called for help. Preliminary information indicates the dispute was related to property use.
When deputies arrived, they located Rodriguez inside a nearby garage. Deputies attempted to de-escalate the situation through verbal commands, but investigators say Rodriguez remained armed and refused to comply.
An exchange of gunfire occurred between Rodriguez and deputies. During the confrontation, Rodriguez shot one deputy. Deputies returned fire and struck Rodriguez.
Deputies detained Rodriguez and secured the firearm. Rodriguez, the female victim, and the injured deputy were transported to a local hospital for treatment. Authorities said the deputy suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The deputy’s K-9 partner was not injured.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will conduct the investigation into the deputy-involved shooting, which is standard procedure. Deputies who fired their weapons have been placed on paid administrative leave in accordance with agency policy.
