Wrong-Way Crash on I-75 in Collier County Leaves 96-Year-Old Man Dead; Driver Arrested for DUI Manslaughter

A wrong-way crash on Interstate 75 in Collier County early Wednesday morning resulted in the death of a 96-year-old Naples man and led to the arrest of a 24-year-old Naples woman on a DUI manslaughter charge, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred at approximately 4:18 a.m. on March 18, 2026, along the southbound lanes of Interstate 75 near mile marker 110.

According to investigators, Genise Gardenia Taylor, 24, of Naples, was driving a 2014 Nissan Rogue northbound in the southbound lanes of I-75. At the same time, a 96-year-old Naples man was driving a 2025 Volvo XC60 southbound, along with a third vehicle, a 2019 Chevrolet Suburban driven by a 57-year-old man from Nashua, New Hampshire.

Troopers said the Nissan, traveling the wrong direction, collided head-on with both southbound vehicles.

The 96-year-old driver of the Volvo sustained critical injuries and was transported to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The 57-year-old driver of the Chevrolet Suburban suffered non-incapacitating injuries and was also transported to a hospital for treatment.

Taylor sustained minor injuries and was taken to a hospital. After being released, she was arrested by Florida Highway Patrol troopers and booked into the Collier County Jail on a charge of DUI manslaughter.

The southbound lanes of I-75 were closed until approximately 12:00 p.m.

The crash remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
