Kitten Survives 55-Foot Fall During Rescue Along I-275 in St. Petersburg

A small kitten survived a 55-foot fall Friday morning after being found stranded along Interstate 275 in St. Petersburg.

At approximately 11 a.m. on September 11, 2026, Florida Highway Patrol troopers received a call from a passerby reporting a kitten stranded along northbound I-275 over 3rd Avenue South.

Troopers and Road Rangers responded and located the kitten, which jumped from the highway onto an adjacent signpost.

Pinellas County Animal Control and the St. Petersburg Fire Department were called to assist with the rescue. As crews worked to reach the stranded kitten, it jumped from the signpost and fell approximately 55 feet to the ground below.

Troopers and Animal Control personnel recovered the kitten, which was found to be in fair condition despite the fall.

Animal Control transported the kitten for medical care and further evaluation.
