Multiple agencies were dispatched about 1:05pm Tuesday afternoon to Honeymoon Island State Park. The call for service was for a possible drowning victim about 100 yards from shore.
The 81 year-old man identified as Jash Morina of Palm Harbor was brought to shore by citizens in the area. Deputies from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office arrived on-scene and assisted. Both Patrol Deputy Kimon Koungras and Marine Unit Deputy Charles Meehan began to render aid and alternated CPR until such time that Dunedin Fire Rescue arrived on scene.
Morina was transported to Mease Dunedin Hospital by Sunstar and remains in critical condition.
According to deputies, Morina told his wife he was going to go for a quick swim. His wife told deputies he’d been gone a while when she noticed some commotion on the beach and realized something had happened to her husband.
