CLEARWATER, Fla. — Clearwater Police and Clearwater Fire & Rescue responded to a water-rescue call on Sand Key this evening.
The call was received at 6:09 p.m. from a location just north of the Clearwater Sailing Center on the Intracoastal Waterway. Upon arrival, first responders found that 44-year-old Mario Narvaez-Narvaez of Largo had already been pulled from the water by bystanders, who had initiated CPR.
Fire Rescue personnel took over lifesaving efforts, and he was transported to Morton Plant Hospital with life-threatening injuries. He later died at the hospital.
