Girl safe after Amber Alert but related homicide investigation continues

In the latest development reported by Mike Loux, the police chief of the Largo Police Department, officers responded to a request from the Clearwater Police Department (CPD) around 3 a.m. to locate Renato Mujaj following a domestic felony battery incident at 2225 Nursery Road, Oakbrook Village Apartments road apartment complex. There were concerns that Renato was headed to the Bayside Court Apartments at 1760 Clearwater Largo Road, the residence of 32-year-old Suela Saliaj and their child Alessia Mujaj.

Upon arrival, officers discovered disturbing circumstances prompting immediate entry into the apartment. Suela Saliaj was found deceased due to homicidal violence, and Alessia was missing, leading to the issuance of an Amber Alert.

Around 8:30 a.m., using cell phone technology, information about Renato’s approximate location was obtained. A CPD sergeant located the vehicle in the 1600 block of St. Pauls Drive.

Collaborative efforts involving Largo Police, Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, and Clearwater Police successfully recovered Renato and Alessia. Alessia is now reunited with her family, while Renato faces charges of 1st-degree murder, kidnapping, and child abuse.

Renato Muhaj

Renato Muhaj has been charged by Clearwater Police Department detectives with seven criminal counts related to an overnight domestic battery incident at the Oakbrook Village Apartments. The charges include two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of tampering with a witness, and one count each of felony battery, false imprisonment, and domestic battery. The charges result from a domestic dispute reported at 2:44 a.m. at the apartment complex, where Muhaj Renato Muhaj now charged with felony murder.

Before killing his Ex and the mother of their child, Muhaj assaulted both of his parents, impeding their ability to call 911 by confiscating their cell phones. Subsequently, both parents required transportation to the hospital.

Breaking: 9 am: A vehicle related to Amber Alert has been located, and Renato Muhaj and Alessia Muhaj were located. The 8-year-old girl was recovered and was safe. Renato is currently in custody. The vehicle was located on St. Pauls Drive, south of Belleair Road.

A Florida AMBER Alert was issued for Alessia Muhaj, a white female, 8 years old, unknown height, unknown weight, brown hair and brown eyes, last seen in the area of the Bayside Court Apartments at 1760 Clearwater Largo Road North in Largo, Florida.

The child was in the company of Renato Muhaj, a white male, 6 feet tall, unknown weight, brown hair and brown eyes. They may were traveling in a 2017, gold Kia Sportage, FL tag number EJIJ99.

Reports are that this incident initially began at an apartment complex off Nursery Road in Clearwater. The Clearwater Police Department is working that crime scene.

A second crime scene is set at the Belleair Court Apartments, where the 8-year-old was last seen. Largo Police are on the scene at this time.

The Largo Police Department confirms that a death investigation is underway. Blood was located upon officers’ arrival, and a body was discovered.
