Arrest made after 84 year-old man shot this morning in St. Petersburg

The St. Petersburg Police Department (SPPD) announced the arrest of 62 year-old Tyrone Church on two counts of attempted murder.

At 5:52 a.m, Officers from SPPD responded to a man shot in the parking lot of the MLK Food Store, 1500 Dr. MLK St. S. at approximately 5:52 a.m. on Saturday, April 16, 2022.

An 84 year old man was shot while he was sitting in his car in the parking lot at that location. The victim suffered a non life-threatening injury. Another vehicle was also struck by a bullet but no one else was hurt.

K9 Officers tracked and located Church who was arrested at 6:06 a.m.

He faces charges for two counts of attempted murder not premeditated and one count of felon in possession of a firearm.

Church was last arrested on March 18, 2022 on charges of Burglary; Battery and criminal mischief. He was released from the Pinellas County Jail on March 19th.

SPPD has not released any further details or motive for the shooting.
