Arrest Made in Emerson Avenue South Homicide

ST. PETERSBURG – Detectives have arrested Jamal Black, 20, in connection with the September 7 homicide of Tyrone Howard.

Blacks is charged with second-degree murder and four counts of violation of felony probation.

The incident began shortly after 2 p.m. on September 7, when a vehicle driven by Howard, 21, crashed into a parked car at Robco Transmission & Auto, located at 3101 Emerson Avenue South. First responders found Howard suffering from a gunshot wound sustained near the 2900 block of Emerson Avenue South.

Howard was transported to Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital in St. Petersburg, where he later died from his injuries.

His one-year-old daughter was also inside the vehicle at the time of the crash but was not injured. His fiancée is currently 7 months pregnant with their second child.

According to the arrest affidavit, the two arranged to meet at Black’s home for the sale of marijuana. The shooting occurred at that location, and 9mm shell casings were located in front of Black’s house.

The investigation is ongoing.
