Arrests Made in New Jersey Street Shooting Incident

Largo, FL – On August 7, 2024, just before 11:00 PM, Largo Police Department officers responded to multiple calls reporting a shooting in the area of New Jersey Street and Clearwater Largo Road North.

The incident involved a 17-year-old male who was walking home when he sensed he was being followed. As he entered the backyard of his residence on New Jersey Street, three masked individuals confronted him, producing at least two handguns. The assailants fired a total of twelve rounds, striking the victim in the leg. One of the bullets penetrated his grandmother’s trailer, landing in her lap. A second family member who exited the residence was also fired upon but retreated unharmed. The victim was transported to a local hospital and is in stable condition.

The victim identified one of the suspects as Daunte Beckwith, with whom he had an ongoing dispute. Largo police officers conducted a neighborhood canvass and located Beckwith nearby. He was detained and admitted to involvement in the shooting.

Further investigation by Largo Police Detectives led to the identification of two additional suspects, one of whom was involved in the shooting. It was also discovered that one of the firearms used in the incident had been stolen during a robbery earlier that evening in Clearwater.

On August 9, 2024, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office apprehended the second suspect, Ze’tovan Neeley, in St. Petersburg. Neeley was found in possession of the stolen firearm from the Clearwater robbery and later admitted his role in the shooting.

Beckwith and Neeley were transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center and charged with the following offenses:

Daunte Beckwith Age: 15

  • Attempted Felony Murder
  • Shooting Deadly Missiles into an Occupied Dwelling

Ze’tovan Neeley Ave: 14

  • Attempted Felony Murder
  • Shooting Deadly Missiles into an Occupied Dwelling
  • Armed Robbery (related to the Clearwater case)

The Largo Police Department extended its gratitude to the Clearwater Police Department and the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in this case. The investigation remains ongoing, and further details will be released as they become available.
