Motorcyclist Killed in Crash Involving Overturned Car On US-19 at Pine Ridge Way S in Palm Harbor

Shortly after 5 PM on Thursday, March 23, 2017, first responders were dispatched to a crash in the 34200 block of Hwy US-19 in Palm Harbor.

Upon arrival they encountered an overturned vehicle on top of a motorcycle.  The motorcyclist died at the scene and Bayflite responded to transport the injured occupant of the vehicle.  Her injuries are listed as serious but do not appear life-threatening.

The Florida Highway Patrol arrived to conduct the investigation.  Based on preliminary information, Troopers say that 22 year-old Arianna Abbate-Perks of Holiday, Florida was traveling northbound on US-19 in a 2006 Honda Civic.  She was north of Nebraska Avenue and attempted to make a left turn into Park Avenue Plaza.

At same time, 21 year-old Devon Porrata of Spring Hill, Florida was traveling southbound on US-19 on a 2013 Honda CBR1000 motorcycle. He was reportedly in the outside lane.

Trooper say the Civic traveled into the path of Porrata’s motorcycle.  The two vehicles collided which resulted in both vehicles overturning.

Porrata reportedly was wearing a helmet but sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene of the crash.  Abbate-Perks was flown to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg with serious injuries.

Troopers say charges are pending and testing is ongoing to determine if Abbate-Perks was impaired in any way.

  1. Those stickers are for the old fuck and the new drivers out on the road that don’t look twice or look over there shoulder to change lanes or pull out into the road. I’ve been a rider myself and have came close to t-boning a car because “they didn’t see me,” there will always be asshole motorcyclist but don’t forget there are drivers behind the wheel that drive like assholes too. I see them everyday driving to and from work. It’s easier to talk shit from the other side and not have driven a motorcycle itself to see the point of the sticker!

  2. Some of us just lost a great friend a brother there is no need for your ignorant comments and judgements on what type of person he was .. why don’t we speak on why yes he was wrong in speeding but this lady made a right turn on a no turn on red?.. but I’m more concerned on remembering my brother for the great man he was and how I will always keep his memory alive !! #rip #godbless

  3. agreed as she pulls in front of him BUT,
How fast was he going on that motorcycle to flip a car over. The rider assumes some responsibility in his actions as well. No one wants to see this at all but when your going fast enough to flip a car you can’t just blame the drive of the car!

  4. I am so appalled by the lack of compassion. How about the “real” story?
The red Civic was not paying close attention, and cut across traffic. She was at fault.
The “brother” is not a biological brother, but rather a close friend. He ran to the accident and held Devon in his arms. While holding his “brother”, a lady and man came out into the street, cussing and yelling. The man wearing a red shirt proceeded to beat, punch and berate the young man holding Devon. The couple was yelling obscenities and saying many varieties of “This is what you get if you ride a bike.”
The 2nd rider was taken to the hospital because of the beating he took by the man in the red shirt. As soon as he was released, he came straight back to the sight.
Here are some sick facts –
People were taking photos/videos of the accident, yet it was 10-15 minutes after the accident before someone called 911.
Those photos/videos got posted online via social media. Their posts got to the family before the police did.
Devon was left on the site of the accident for 3+ hours. Emergency personnel threw some chemical on the blood, but did not see fit to tent or block the scene.
Americans are desensitized by the sheer number of accidents, television and social media seen. Are we now a country of spewing anger and condemnation? Where did love, compassion and prayer get lost?

    • I am so sorry for your loss but that’s not what happened. I witnessed the accident right in front of me and was there until 8:30pm. I just don’t want you to have the wrong insight or anyone else for that matter.
The girl in the red civic was heading north on 19 making a left turn into glory days to start her shift at work. The two guys on bikes broke away from traffic at the light at Alderman headin south and were goin so fast there was no way they could’ve avoided hitting her and no way she could’ve seen them coming before it was far too late. The friend was able to weave and avoid the car but Devin could’nt. My friends were first to run over to help. And emergency vehicles were there within minutes. The friend stopped and ran back and yes, people were yelling at him as to why they were riding so fast but no one ever laid a hand on him or even got close to him. He got back on his bike and left actually. Unharmed. The scene was baracaded for hours because of Bay flight for the girl in the car and because of investigation. I can promise you that he was prayed over time time and time again by myself and many others there. My office, which was having the party on the deck of glory days will be having a fundraiser actually to help his family as well as Ariana, the girl in the car. It was a terrible tragedy that I will never forget but I pray people will learn from. My heart breaks for everyone involved

    • Are you out of your mind “angel eyes” your story is completely wrong and Jaime has the correct story. Whoever is coming up with these lies of the brother stopping and holding his brother, is in fact lying. He left his “brother” and took off on his motorcycle completely unharmed then came back later. Emergency personnel were at the scene immediately and no chemical was thrown on the blood. The fact that you weren’t there to witness this terrible accident but still feel like you know the facts is ridiculous. It looks like everyone who was there (including myself) has the same story of what happened and people like you who have spoken to these random individuals who make up these ridiculous stories, continue to blame poor Arianna when it was clearly the motorcyclist who shouldn’t have been driving like a complete idiot.

  5. I to was there with Charlotte, (I’m the guy in the photo in white shirt with P.D.). I checked that boys pulse 4 or 5 times and got nothing. I thought about starting C.P.R. but the open injury to his neck and the massive blood loss made that attempt a no can do. As the crowed and witnesses gathered the story was as the motorcycles weaved in and out of traffic this boy saw the cars in front of him breaking an accelerated into the right lane, unknown to him the reason for the stoppage was to let the girl threw thats why the rider hit the back side of that car. there were no visible skid marks, and the power needed to take the car over makes me think he may have been accelerating and along with the impact drove the car onto its roof. The bike and rider were not thrown a 100 yards up the rode means they flipped with the car. I’m sorry I could not be the lords tool to save that poor guy life and regardless of who’s to blame, no one deserved to die that day.

  6. I was driving southbound on 19 and two motorcyclist five minutes the accident before cut me off I had to hit the brakes they were going at least 90 mph within five minutes later ambulances and fire trucks headed to the scene it was the same motorcyclist under the car as I drove by

  7. I agree with Freddy that it really doesn’t matter at this point whose fault it is. Yes, they may have been going to fast on their bikes but I got hit in my car by a truck when people stopped to let me out in a similar situation. The cars in the first two lanes stopped and the car in the middle lane waved me on right as another vehicle jumped to the outside lane (which happened to be one of those through turn lane combination things) punch the gas and hit me. An officer saw the whole thing happen and actually had to call another officer to discuss the legalities of it. I got the ticket because I did not have the right of way and came into oncoming traffic. The upside was that nobody was seriously injured.

It could of just as easy been a car or truck that was speeding and weaving in and out of traffic just trying to get ahead that extra spot or two but this time it happened to be motorcyles. There are many careful drivers and many careless drivers in all types of vehicles. I actually saw a motorcycle at a stop light get rear ended in the middle of the day. Thank God they car was stopping at the time.

We all need to drive a bit more responsibly and watch out of the others around us.

Thought and prayers to all involved.

  8. Okay first of all for whoever is talking down on a young mans deceased life needs to chill and take a seat. I was there and saw everything & yes Devon was driving over the speed limit and yes that lady could’ve waited to pull out but regardless of who’s at fault or to blame no one deserves to lose they’re life especially in such a tragic accident. He has a family and friends who love him and are suffering a great loss the last thing anyone should be doing is talking down on someone’s name as if the consequences weren’t obviously enough. I held that mans best friend in my arms when he got to the scene as he saw his best friends lifeless body lying there , people are at a great loss don’t make It harder by being ignorant&a that motorcycler didn’t leave his friend he was taken to the hospital and he came right back and even slept in that parking lot that night .
