A devastating crash occurred on Sunday morning, July 23, 2023, at Court Street and East Avenue South in Clearwater. Emergency crews from Clearwater Fire & Rescue, along with officers from the Clearwater Police Department, rushed to the scene to assist.
According to preliminary reports, the incident occurred at approximately 9:20 a.m. when a female bicyclist, described as in her 30s, was heading northbound on the sidewalk on the west side of the roadway, nearing the intersection with Court Street. She was operating a Dimond Triathlon Marquise Bicycle. Simultaneously, a male motorist was traveling westbound in a Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Eyewitnesses stated that the bicyclist entered the roadway without stopping, colliding with the driver’s side of the Jeep Grand Cherokee. The impact of the collision was severe, leaving the bicyclist with serious and potentially life-threatening injuries. As a result, she was immediately transported to the trauma center at Bayfront Health St. Petersburg for urgent medical attention.
Thankfully, the vehicle’s driver emerged from the accident physically unharmed and cooperated with the investigators. He drove the vehicle from the crash scene after the onsite investigation concluded. Authorities have not released the identities of those involved in the crash.
