Clearwater Police and Clearwater Fire & Rescue responded to a crashwith serious injuries on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at 6:40 p.m.
The crash took place in the eastbound lanes of Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard, just east of Belcher Road, involving a bicyclist crossing from north to south.
The bicyclist, identified as 19-year-old Carlos Jimenez Velasquez of Clearwater, was struck by a 2004 Toyota Corolla.
Investigators say that that the bicyclist was not in a crosswalk or at an intersection. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
Carlos Jimenez Velasquez was transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg and is currently in critical condition.
The eastbound lanes of Gulf-to-Bay were temporarily closed for a few hours during the investigation.
