Bicyclist dead following crash in St. Petersburg, driver charged with DUI

Officers from the St. Petersburg Police Department continue to investigate a crash that killed a bicyclist in St. Petersburg.

The crash occurred shortly after 9 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, when 25-year-old Haylee Concepcion of St. Petersburg was attempting to cross 54th Avenue South after leaving her nearby workplace.

Investigators say that Concepcion was in a marked crosswalk when a black Jeep made a legal left turn from 31st Street South to head east on 54th Avenue South.

Concepcion stepped in front of the Jeep and was struck. At the time, the Jeep was turning under a steady green left turn arrow.

She was transported to Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital with life-threatening injuries. She died of her injuries at the hospital on Wednesday.

The Jeep driver, 66-year-old Richard Wilson, remained on the scene. During the crash investigation, officers determined Wilson showed signs of impairment and subsequently was arrested for driving under the influence.

The investigation is ongoing.
