Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol continue to investigate a crash that killed a bicyclist.
The crash occurred at approximately 7:19 p.m. on Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at 71st Street North and 50th Avenue.
Based on preliminary infomation provided, a FedEx truck, was traveling northbound on 71st Street North, north of 50th Avenue North.
Troopers say the FedEx truck was behind the bicyclist who was also traveling northbound without any lighting.
The driver of the FedEx truck, a 25 year-old male from St. Petersburg, took evasive action when he became aware of the bicyclist, a 54 year-old male from the United Kingdom.
The truck began to rotate on the wet roadway. As a result, the rear of truck collided with the bicyclist, then continued into the path of and collided with the left side of a southbound van.
Following the collisions, the two vehicles came to final rest on the west shoulder of 71st Street North while the bicyclist came to rest at the driveway entrance to 5001 71st Street North.
The bicyclist was transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg where he later died in the early morning hours from injuries suffered during the crash.
