Bicyclist killed in crash in St. Petersburg

Officers from the St. Petersburg Police Department responded to reports of a crash involving a bicyclist at approximately 7:06 a.m. on Wednesday, January 31, 2024.

Investigators say that a Kia Sorento and a bicyclist were traveling north in the 7600 block of 18th Way North.

The driver of the Kia Sorento attempted to pass the bicyclist by steering the vehicle west of the roadway when the bicyclist attempted to do the same.

The Kia Sorento ultimately struck the bicycle,
causing the crash.

The bicyclist, 65-year-old George Kyriazis, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver remained on the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

The investigation is still ongoing.
