The crash occurred at approximately 1:39 a.m. on Sunday, November 29, 2020.

Police say a 2014 Toyota Rav4 driven by a St. Petersburg man was turning from 2nd Street North onto 1st Ave North on a green light.

A bicyclist, 37 year-old Chad R. Bennett of St. Petersburg, was traveling east on 1st Ave North in the south curb lane.

Bennett was traveling the wrong way on a one-way roadway, had no lights on his bicycle and it collided with the Toyota in the middle of the intersection.

Bennett was transported to Bayfront Health and was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

  1. I hope this is reported accurately. Thank you for be the only news source to not put all these circumstances in the headline. We always have to hear everything about the cyclist (What they were wearing, did they have lights etc) and never anything about the driver. Cyclist deaths are always accompanied with a moderate degree of victim blaming, and I wish news sources would see how much danger that constantly puts us in.

  2. whats wrong will your brain marlee the bicyclist was going the wrong way in the dark at 130 in the morning no lights plus he is 37 years old most likely a loser anyway or he would be driving a car. so shut your pie hole people on bike always run red lights cut across lanes of traffic just to bet other traffic to get a head to start over again at the need red light, you people are just a pain in the ass buy a car
