On Monday, December 4, 2023, at approximately 2:15 p.m., Tarpon Springs Police and Fire responded to report a vehicle crash at Martin Luther King Dr and North Ave.
The crash involved a bicyclist and a westbound vehicle driven by a 66-year-old male.

The adult male bicyclist was transported to Advent Health North Pinellas where he died from his injuries.
Investigators were able to identify the bicyclist and notify the next of kin.

The rider was 18 year old Oni Mercado of Tarpon Springs. Mercado was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The driver of the car Mercado struck was not injured.
