Bradenton shooting suspect in custody after eight hour long standoff in Sarasota

SARASOTA – Bradenton Police, Sarasota Police, and the U.S. Marshals office spent some eight hours Wednesday afternoon (May 3, 2023) and evening working an investigation near the 5100 block of Old Bradenton Rd. The road was blocked off, and residents were advised to shelter in place. The agencies were working to apprehend Dorian Brooks, 24, at the Bayou Oaks Apartments. Brooks is wanted on multiple warrants, including a warrant for first-degree murder. Sarasota Police report that at about 11 PM, Brooks was finally taken into custody.

Brooks was wanted in connection with the January 23, 2023 incident where multiple suspects arrived at a residence in the 100 block of 10th Avenue W. in Bradenton to commit an armed robbery. During the robbery, the suspects shot more than 60 times, striking three victims. One of the victims, a 23-year-old man, succumbed to his injuries on January 31.

Brooks was inside a friend’s residence for more than 10 hours. He was in the attic when officers were able to apprehend him. There are no injuries involved in this incident, which is still under investigation.

As a result of Bradenton Police Detectives’ investigation, the following individuals have either been arrested or have active warrants for Armed Robbery and First-Degree Murder in connection with the January 23rd incident:

Mekhai Booker, 17 

Kobe Brooks, 19 

Kevion Brooks, 22 (IN CUSTODY)

Tyreak Allen, 20 (IN CUSTODY)

Jerome Williams, 20 (IN CUSTODY)

Shamar Mobley, 20 (IN CUSTODY)
