Child stuck in elevator shaft at home in Snell Isle suffers critical injuries

St. Petersburg Fire Rescue responded to a call at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Monday, May 2, 2022 for reports of a child stuck in an elevator at a residence in the 800 block of Brightwaters Blvd.

Crews found a child stuck between floors in an elevator shaft at the residence. Technical rescue personnel responded and removed part of the ceiling to extricate the child.

Paramedics immediately transported the approximately 5 year-old victim to Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in critical condition.

As of Tuesday morning, the child is still at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in critical condition.

After investigation by responding SPFR crews and SPPD units the incident appears to be accidental without foul play involved. The case remains under review by SPPD detectives.
