Clearwater Authorities Investigating Cause of Severe Burns to Homeless Man

Clearwater — Clearwater Fire & Rescue and the Clearwater Police Department responded to a report of a serious burn injury late Wednesday night in the 1100 block of Druid Road, near the Terraces at Clearwater Beach.

The call came in just after 11 p.m. on December 24, 2025. First responders found a 34-year-old homeless man with severe burns covering more than 50 percent of his body. Due to the extent of his injuries, the man was transported by Aeromed to Tampa General Hospital for treatment.

Aeromed landed at the soccer field on South Hillcrest Avenue to facilitate the airlift of the victim.

According to Clearwater Fire & Rescue, inspectors located an accelerant near open flames in an area where homeless individuals had been congregating. Investigators are working to determine how the incident occurred.
