CLEARWATER BEACH, Fla. – A suspect is in custody after reportedly opening fire on the Clearwater Police substation at 700 Bayway Blvd around 4 a.m. Monday. No officers were injured, though one police vehicle, a Ford Explorer, was struck. The bullet hit the door just below the driver’s side window.
Two additional rounds struck the exterior cinderblock wall of the building.
The suspect, 25-year-old Gamaliel Reyes of Lakeland, surrendered to officers a few blocks away near the Holiday Inn. The roadway remained closed until 7 a.m. while authorities ensured no additional hazards were in the vehicle.
After the gunfire, Reyes contacted law enforcement and expressed his intent to surrender in connection with the incident. He was taken into custody at 521 S. Gulfview Boulevard.

The motive is under investigation. Post Miranda, Reyes declined to provide a statement regarding the incident.
Reyes has been charged with the following:
- Discharge of a firearm from a vehicle
- Possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony
- Shooting a deadly missile into a building
- Shooting a deadly missile into an occupied vehicle
- Criminal Mischief
