Clearwater couple seriously injured by wrong-way driver on I-75 near Fort Myers

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) continue to investigate a fiery fatal wrong-way driver crash on I-75 near Fort Myers.

The crash occurred on Thursday, November 23, 2023, at approximately 1:35 a.m. south of State Road 82 in the southbound lanes of I-75.

Troopers say that the 21-year-old female driver of a Kia Soul was traveling the wrong way on Interstate 75. She was traveling north in the southbound travel lanes north of Colonial Boulevard.

A Nissan Rogue, operated by a 59-year-old male from Clearwater, was traveling south on Interstate 75, south of State Road 82, in the left lane. This resulted in a head-on collision between the two vehicles.

The Kia Soul burst into flames, and the driver died at the scene.

The driver of the Rogue and his 59-year-old female passenger, also from Clearwater, were transported to a hospital with serious injuries.
