At approximately 4:20 p.m. on Friday, June 30, 2023, the Clearwater Police and Clearwater Fire & Rescue responded to a traffic crash at the intersection of Highland Avenue and Franklin Street.
According to the preliminary investigation, the crash occurred between a motor scooter and an SUV, both traveling northbound on Highland Avenue.
While the SUV came to a stop due to traffic conditions, the operator of the scooter failed to do so and collided with the rear of the SUV. As a result of the impact, the 22-year-old male driver of the scooter was forcefully ejected into the rear windshield of the SUV.
He suffered a significant neck injury, but fortunately, he is currently in stable condition, and his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. He was was airlifted to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg for medical treatment.
