CLEARWATER – Three of four westbound lanes on Court Street in Downtown Clearwater will close overnight on Jan. 19 for approximately two weeks. The closures, from South Prospect Avenue to South Garden Avenue, are required to replace failing sanitary sewer manholes located directly under the roadway.
City contractors will operate 24 hours a day, including weekends, to install a sanitary sewer bypass main and fully rebuild the affected sewer infrastructure. During construction, only one westbound lane will remain open. Drivers heading to Downtown Clearwater or Clearwater Beach should expect heavy congestion and long delays during peak hours.
Motorists are advised to use alternative routes, including Drew Street, Fort Harrison Avenue, West Bay Drive, and Gulf Boulevard. Variable message boards on Court Street and dynamic-message signs along State Road 60 will provide guidance and detour directions. Drivers should also watch for pedestrian traffic near the Pinellas Trail.
City officials said crews will make every effort to complete the project on schedule. The closure is expected to last approximately two weeks, depending on construction progress and weather conditions.
