Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol continue investigating a crash that occurred at approximately 5:52 a.m. on Sunday, January 28, 2024.
The crash involved a Toyota Yaris and a Publix tractor-trailer. An 18-year-old male was operating the Yaris northbound on the I-375 entrance onto I-275. A 34-year-old male was operating a Publix tractor-trailer northbound on I-275.
Troopers say the driver of the Yaris was traveling too fast on the wet roadway while merging into I-275 and lost control of his vehicle, rotated, and traveled across the roadway until colliding with the Publix trailer.
The 18-year-old driver and his passenger, a 28-year-old man, both of St. Petersburg, suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the crash.
The 34-year-old Lakeland man was not injured in the crash.
