Crash kills woman attempting to cross US-19 in Tarpon Springs in a motorized wheelchair

The Tarpon Springs Police Department received a 911 call indicating that a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle in the 40300 block of US-19 at approximately 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 5, 2022.

Upon arrival of police units, bystanders were attempting to provide first aid and CPR on a female victim.

The female victim was treated by Tarpon Springs Fire Rescue and was transported to Advent Health of North Pinellas where she died at 1:03pm.

Through the investigation, it was discovered that a White Jeep was traveling northbound on US-19 and struck the victim, who was crossing from west to east, in an area not designated for crossing, on a motorized wheelchair.

Investigators determined that the driver of the white Jeep was obeying all traffic laws and there are no criminal charges in this case.

Due to next of kin not being located/notified as of this time, the name of the deceased is not being released.

This investigation is still ongoing and anyone that may have information pertaining to this crash can contact Cpl. John Gibson at 727-938-2849.
