Many people will need to make alternate arrangements for their commute starting tomorrow morning.
A road closure on 22nd Avenue N, a main thoroughfare to I-275, will be closed while work is being conducted on the CSX railroad crossing between I-275 and 25nd Street N.
The project is scheduled to begin at approximately 6 a.m. on Monday, March 2, 2020 and finish Friday, March 6, 2020. Detailed information on this closure is unavailable but full closures are expected during this time. Information on the closure was included in an early afternoon dissemination of a Pinellas County Traffic Advisory Report early Friday afternoon.
Last week in Tampa, multiple similar projects commenced leading to irritation among both commuters and city officials. The city claimed that they received no advance notification of the roadwork. CSX reportedly coordinated with the state but failed to communicate with the city.
Commuters should plan on avoiding the area and enter the interstate from 38th Avenue N or 54th Avenue N or take MLK or 4th Street to area bridges. This closures may add to commute times and motorists should plan accordingly.
Mayor Kriseman has expressed his disappointment and frustration with what he is calling “zero business days” notice. The railroad crossing work is being conducted by a CSX partner company, Southern Commercial Development LLC.
I regret to report that @CSX has given us zero business days to prepare our residents for a major street closure on 22nd Ave N between 275 and 25th St. Work begins Mon AM. Very disappointing and frustrating but I thank all media in advance for spreading the word, helping us out.
