DUNEDIN – Deputies from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) are investigating a vehicle versus bicycle crash that occurred Tuesday afternoon in Dunedin.
According to investigators, at approximately 3:55 p.m., a 2019 Ford F-250 driven by a 30-year-old Dunedin resident was traveling eastbound on Wilson Street, approaching the Pinellas Trail. At the same time, 67-year-old Jeffrey Slocum of Dunedin was riding his electric bicycle southbound on the trail through the intersection at Wilson Street.
Deputies say the driver stopped at the stop sign and began to accelerate through the intersection when Slocum failed to stop for the stop sign and collided with the truck.
Slocum, who was not wearing a helmet, was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the truck was uninjured and cooperative with investigators.
Deputies say impairment and speed do not appear to be factors in the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.
