Detached tire on US-19 leads to collision but no serious injuries in Clearwater

Officers from the Clearwater Police Department continue to investigate a crash that occurred shortly before 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2024

The freak accident occurred on US-19 just north of Drew Street. A tire detached from a southbound vehicle bounced over the median and struck the windshield of a northbound car.

Fortunately, the woman and her school-aged daughter in the car remained unharmed. The child, positioned in the back seat, avoided injury as the front passenger seat, where the tire impacted, sustained significant damage.

Clearwater Fire & Rescue crews examined both occupants for injuries, but hospitalization was not required.
