Detectives arrest 13-year-old for written threats to commit a mass shooting at Tyrone Middle School

On Monday, May 20, 2024, detectives assigned to the Threat Management Division arrested a Tyrone Middle School student for Written Threats to Kill or Conduct a Mass Shooting and Aggravated Stalking of a Child.

Detectives say the 13-year-old student logged into another student’s Pinellas County Schools portal FOCUS account to send threatening messages to multiple teachers using profanities and stating, “I will shoot this school up I got 5 glocks and ak-47.”

Detectives contacted the student, who admitted to sending the messages but stated he did so jokingly. Hr was arrested and charged with one count of Written Threats to Kill or Conduct a Mass Shooting and one count of Aggravated Stalking of a Minor Child.

In a press release, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office stated that it remains committed to keeping our schools, our children, and our community safe.
