Detectives with the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Robbery & Homicide Unit are investigating a double homicide after two adults were found deceased inside their Largo residence.
On Friday, June 6, 2025, at approximately 12:35 p.m., deputies responded to a welfare check at 29 Saunders Avenue in the Cardinal Court Mobile Home Park after an employee failed to report for work. Upon arrival, deputies located 53-year-old Elizabeth Lee Kirchner and 64-year-old Steven Eric Kirchner deceased in the living room with apparent gunshot wounds.
Through the investigation, detectives identified the victims’ son, 37-year-old Nicholas Steven Kirchner, as the suspect. He had fled the scene before law enforcement’s arrival.
Later, the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office in South Carolina contacted Pinellas County detectives regarding a separate incident involving Nicholas. During that incident, he allegedly stated, “I’ve already killed two people – I’ll kill some more.” Nicholas fled that scene as well.
The Taliaferro County Sheriff’s Office in Georgia subsequently took him into custody. According to investigators, Nicholas admitted multiple times to killing his parents, describing it as a “righteous kill.”
Nicholas was booked into the McDuffie County Jail in Georgia on a felony warrant for two counts of First-Degree Murder Premeditated.
Next of kin have been notified. The investigation is ongoing.
