Molly Cox, age 50, a former manager at Dunkin’ Donuts at 600 N Missouri Avenue in Largo, has been arrested for grand theft following an audit and subsequent investigation by the Largo Police Department. The audit, conducted for the period of November 2022 to September 2023, revealed a payroll shortage, prompting the owner to scrutinize the financial records.
The investigation unveiled a significant number of missing deposits at Wells Fargo Bank, with Cox identified as the individual responsible for making these deposits. Surveillance footage captured Cox leaving with the deposits, leading to her subsequent arrest. A total of $153,609.98 in cash deposits were missing.
Subpoenaed bank and PayPal records for Cox demonstrated substantial deposits into her accounts from sources other than payroll. While admitting to taking some of the deposits, Cox asserted that she did not take all of them before abruptly leaving her job.
During questioning by detectives, Cox initially confessed to the thefts but later recanted, denying any involvement. According to the arrest affidavit, she claimed that her additional income came from her boyfriend’s alleged narcotic sales.
She was arrested on Thursday, February 29, 2024, and transported to the Pinellas County Jail. Molly Cox now faces charges related to grand theft (>$100,000).
The investigation continues.
