A crash occurred at approximately 7:30 a.m. on Monday, June 12, 2023, at the intersection of Court Street and Fort Harrison Avenue in Clearwater.
Police say a westbound pickup truck hauling a trailer lost control and left the road just east of Fort Harrison Avenue. During the incident, the truck struck a couple of signs and vegetation before getting stuck on a small wall and wedged against a power pole.
As a result, the traffic signal at Court and Fort Harrison ceased functioning, and drivers were asked follow direction of officers directing traffic and reduce their speeds in the area.
While the driver was being examined at a local hospital, police officers were investigating the cause of the crash.
The driver involved has been identified as 37-year-old Robert Mirabella, from Riverview. Mirabella faces charges of DUI with property damage, as he has three prior DUI convictions.
Additionally, he was charged with possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia. Among the items discovered in his truck were two crack cocaine pipes.
Mirabella has been taken into custody and booked into the Pinellas County Jail.
