LARGO – The Largo Police Department is investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 4:02 a.m. on Sunday, October 26, 2025. The crash happened in the 13800 block of 58th Street North.

According to investigators, a 2002 GMC Sierra driven by 21-year-old Arael Clemente Vaquero of Pinellas Park was traveling southbound on 58th Street North at a high rate of speed when it left the roadway approximately 450 feet north of Eicart Crossing. The vehicle continued south on the west sidewalk, sideswiped a brick wall at the intersection, then collided head-on with a palm tree. The truck spun and struck a second palm tree on the driver’s side, detaching the doors.

The passenger, 18-year-old David Salazar-Castillo, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Vaquero was transported to a local trauma center with injuries.

Officers observed signs of impairment, including bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, and the odor of an alcoholic beverage. A medical blood analysis showed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.237. A first blood draw was obtained while Vaquero was unconscious, and a second consensual sample was later taken.

Approximately 450 feet before sideswiping a brick wall, the vehicle left the roadway and drove on the sidewalk. It eventually struck the brick wall and then struck 2 separate palm trees. At 1 second prior to the crash, the vehicle’s event data recorder shows he was going 63mph.

Vaquero was arrested later that day and charged with DUI Manslaughter under Florida Statute 316.193(3)(c)(3)(a). On October 28, 2025, he was also charged with Vehicular Homicide.

The investigation remains ongoing.
