Officers from the Largo Police Department responded to a crash in the northbound lanes of US Hwy 19 near Whitney Road for a vehicle crash. The crash occurred at approximately 5:36 p.m. on Thursday, March 9, 2023.
Investigators say that a northbound Nissan Altima rear-ended a Ford van. The Ford was stopped in traffic due to traffic congestion at the time of the crash. The driver and passenger of the Ford van, along with other witnesses, informed investigators that the driver of the Nissan Altima was driving erratically before the accident.
The driver of the Nissan was transported to Mease Countryside Hospital, where she died shortly after arriving. A young child under the age of 2 that was traveling in the Nissan was transported to a local hospital and is doing well.
At this time, it is unknown if the deceased driver of the Nissan was under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
