Driver dead following single vehicle crash in St. Petersburg

The St. Petersburg Police Department reports they are investigating a fatality crash that occurred at approximately 11 p.m. on Saturday, January 23, 2021.

Investigators say that 31 year-old Dana Holtorf was operating a 2014 red Hyundai Sonata eastbound on 118th Avenue N. at a high speed. 

Investigators believe he was going around 80 miles per hour when he crashed into a chain link fence in the 2200 block of 118th Ave, where the road dead ends.  After crashing through the fence, he struck a palm tree and a wooden utility pole.

The report indicated that Holtoft was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.  

Holtorf was transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg, where he was pronounced dead. 

At this time, the cause of the crash is under investigation and unknown if impaired was a factor in the crash.
