Driver lost control of vehicle, seriously injured crashing into car carrier on I-75 in Hillsborough County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) continue to investigate a serious injury crash in Hillsborough County. The crash occurred on I-75 near SR-60 at approximately 9:04 p.m. on Sunday, October 24, 2021.

Based on preliminary information, a 25 year-old male from Tampa, driving a 2013 Kia Optima, was traveling southbound on I-75 near Milepost 258 at a high speed. For an unknown reason, the driver lost control of the vehicle.

The Optima entered the outside shoulder and collided with a tractor trailer auto-carrier, which was disabled and parked.

Three Tesla vehicles being transported on the auto carrier were damaged by the impact.

The driver of the Optima was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the auto carrier was not injured in the crash, according to FHP.
