An investigation is currently underway by the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) following a fatal crash that claimed the life of a 33-year-old motorcyclist from Hudson, Florida. The tragic incident occurred on Sunday, June 11, 2023, at approximately 8:43 p.m.
The collision occurred when Ulises J Camargo Vergara, a 62-year-old resident of Tampa, was operating a van in the left turn lane on Hillsborough Avenue. Vergara intended to make a U-turn at the intersection of Sawyer Road, and the traffic signal displayed a green light at the time.
Meanwhile, the motorcyclist was traveling in the opposite direction on Hillsborough Avenue. As Vergara executed the U-turn, his van intersected the path of the oncoming motorcyclist. The collision ensued as the motorcyclist collided with the van’s passenger side.
Emergency services swiftly transported the injured motorcyclist to a nearby hospital following the crash. Tragically, the individual succumbed to the injuries sustained during the accident and passed away. The driver of the van was taken into custody by FHP troopers and subsequently transported to the Hillsborough County Jail. He was arrested on charges of DUI Manslaughter after registering a blood alcohol content (BAC) level of 0.153.
