Duke Energy Employee Shot At While Turning Power Off For Non-Payment

While turning off power for non-payment, Duke Energy employee Michael Scott Kanorr was shot at by resident Corey Deshaun Richardson.  21 year-old Corey Deshaun Richardson resides at 15390 Verona Avenue, Apt B in Clearwater, FL.

This incident occurred Thursday, 1/23/14 at approximately 1:00 p.m.

Duke Energy employee Michael Kanorr went to 15390 Verona Avenue Apt. B to shut the electricity off for non-payment.  Kanorr returned to his work vehicle after turning the power off.  As Kanorr sat in the vehicle finishing up his paperwork, Corey Richardson approached him and began to argue about his power being turned off.

During the confrontation Kanorr noticed Richardson (shirtless) had a handgun in the waistband of his pants.  Fearing for his safety, Kanorr placed his vehicle into Drive and accelerated away.  As Kanorr drove away, he observed Richardson in the rearview mirror pull the gun from his waistband and shoot at the back of the work truck Kanorr was driving.

When Kanorr was a safe distance away, he called for law enforcement.

Richardson was located and taken into custody shortly after the arrival of Pinellas County deputies.

Upon inspection of the vehicle, deputies discovered a bullet hole in the driver’s side rear tail light and the actual bullet was located at the scene as well.

When questioned, Richardson admitted to the allegations against him. A 9 mm handgun was recovered and placed into evidence.

The investigation continues.

Richardson’s booking photo is not yet available but he has been charged with Attempted Murder
