On Sunday, November 26, 2023, at 10:28 PM, a collision occurred on northbound I-275 near Milepost 46, just north of I-4.
The crash is under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
Investigators say that 23-year-old Dane Anthony Jones of Dunedin was operating in Infiniti sedan traveling north, lost control on the wet roadway, colliding with a disabled Can-Am Sling Shot parked on the inside shoulder.
The impact propelled the 19-year-old driver of the Sling Shot, a Wesley Chapel man, over the barrier wall into southbound lanes. He sustained serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital.
The northbound lanes were closed until 3:56 AM, while the southbound lanes reopened at 3:28 AM.
Dane Anthony Jones was arrested for DUI Serious Injury, DUI Property Damage, and Driving While License Suspended involving Serious Injury by FHP Troopers.
