E-Bike Rider Seriously Injured in Tarpon Springs Crash

TARPON SPRINGS – On Saturday, October 18, 2025, at approximately 3:40 p.m., Tarpon Springs Police and Fire Department units responded to a vehicle versus bicycle crash on Lime Street, just west of U.S. Highway 19 North.

According to investigators, a female rider was traveling northbound on an e-bike along the sidewalk on the west side of U.S. 19. As she crossed Lime Street in the marked crosswalk, she was struck by a 2018 Chrysler minivan driven by 65-year-old John Vargas.

The bicyclist, identified as 23-year-old Angelina Gomez, sustained serious injuries and was transported as a trauma alert by ground to Bayonet Point Medical Center in Hudson.

The Tarpon Springs Police Traffic Homicide Unit responded to investigate. At this time, there is no evidence of impairment by either the driver or the bicyclist.

The crash remains under investigation. Anyone who witnessed the incident and has not yet spoken with investigators is asked to contact Corporal Joshua Sparks at 727-938-2849.
