Fatal shooting in St. Petersburg erupts following heated social media feud, Three teens face charges

In the aftermath of an online dispute between two factions of young individuals and adolescents, an incident unfolded at approximately 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 30th, 2023.

This incident transpired near the intersection of 6th Avenue South and 29th Street, where four armed teenagers confronted a resident who was actively defending his home.

Upon their arrival, a confrontation quickly escalated, leading to a deadly exchange of gunfire between the armed intruders and the homeowner. In the ensuing activity, 17-year-old Lewis Johnson, one of the four teenagers involved, sustained grave injuries and died from his injuries. All four teens were carrying guns.

In the wake of this incident, three of the remaining individuals have been apprehended and are now facing charges in connection with the violent encounter. The charges against them are as follows:

  1. Chandler Kegler, age 16, stands accused of second-degree attempted murder and felony murder.
  2. Ian Byrd, age 15, is also charged with second-degree attempted murder and felony murder.
  3. Jhimer Williams, age 16, faces allegations of second-degree attempted murder.

The resident who returned fire in defense of his home is not currently facing charges.

The investigation into this incident continues.
