At approximately 1:30 p.m. today, police responded to a shooting incident at a construction site on 1400 Farragut Drive North.

The shooting occurred during a dispute between the general contractor, Mostafa M. Ah Abdo (DOB 11/30/85), and a tile worker over payment issues at a vacant home undergoing remodeling.

As the argument escalated, the tile worker began damaging completed tile work. In response, Mostafa Ah Abdo retrieved a firearm from his truck, returned, and allegedly threatened the tile worker.

At that point, the tile worker’s father, Yamel P. Benitez (DOB 08/16/72), who was also working on-site, produced his own firearm and shot Mostafa Ah Abdo to protect his son. Ah Abdo later died from his injuries.

Investigators have determined that Benitez’s actions constituted justifiable self-defense of another individual. He was not arrested.
