At 10:02 a.m. on September 11, 2024, a fatal crash occurred at the intersection of 1st Avenue South and 51st Street involving a silver Infiniti sedan and a white Ford Ranger. The collision caused both vehicles to leave the road, resulting in one driver being ejected from their vehicle.
The driver of the Ford, who was ejected, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Infiniti was transported to a local hospital, where he is listed in serious but stable condition.
Authorities have not released the identities of those involved, pending notification of next of kin.
The eastbound lanes of 1st Avenue South, as well as the northbound and southbound lanes of 51st Street South, were closed for more than five hours as authorities conducted their investigation.
The investigation is ongoing.
