FHP Investigating Crash That Left One Dead and Many Others Injured Saturday Night in Pasco

Posted: Sunday, March 26, 2017 – 9:30 AM

The fatality crash occurred at approximately 6:02 PM on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at the intersection of State Road 52 and Ehren Cuttoff in Land O’ Lakes, Florida.

Investigators from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) say that the crash involved three vehicles and a total of 10 people.  Initial injury reports indicate that one person died, one critically injured, three seriously injured, and five others with minor injuries.

Troopers say that 28 year-old Johnathon Michael Carmack of Port Richey, FL was traveling eastbound on SR-52 east of Ehren Cutoff. Carmack’s 2000 Chevy Blazer reportedly entered into the westbound lanes and into the path of a 2004 Lincoln SUV being driven by 27 year-old Samuel D. Grimes, Jr. of Daytona Beach, FL. The impact causes the SUV to rotate off the roadway and into a fence on the north shoulder of SR-52.

Carmack’s Bronco continued eastbound and collided with a 2017 Mercedes E400 that was traveling westbound behind the SUV. The Mercedes was being driven by 70 year-old Efraim Abramsohn of San Antonio, FL.

Carmack was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital where he died from his injuries.  His passenger, 28 year-old Katherine Cecilla Yager of Holiday, FL, sustained critical injuries and was transported to Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point.

Grimes and four of the five passengers in his SUV suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene.  His fifth passenger, 13 year-old Julian Barger, suffered serious injuries and was flown to St. Joseph’s Hospital for treatment.  His other passengers were ages 1, 5, 12, and 32.

Both occupants of the Mercedes, 70 year-old Efraim Abramsohn and 58 year-old Leslie Croteau-Abramsohn suffered serious injuries and are currently being treated at Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point.

Troopers say alcohol or impairment was not a factor in the crash.  The occupants of all three vehicles were using proper seatbelt and/or child restraints according to the report.
