Fiery crash leaves one dead early this morning

Crews from Largo Fire Rescue were dispatched about 12:45am this morning to reports of a vehicle crash in the area of Whitney Road and Wolford Road.
First arriving units reported that the fully involved vehicle was off the roadway and into a ditch. Crews initiated a fast attack utilizing foam to help extinguish the fire. An additional engine was dispatched to help replenish the water supply to Engine 40 who was fighting the stubborn fire. Early reports indicated that an occupant was still in the vehicle. Crews also began to search the nearby woods for any occupants that may have been ejected from the vehicle. Florida Highway Patrol responded to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

30 year-old Vincent Holland of Clearwater was traveling southbound on Wolford Road north of Whitney Road. For unknown reason, Mr. Holland exited the southbound lane of Wolford Road, crossed the northbound lane of Wolford Road, traveled onto the shoulder of the roadway and collided with a tree. Post-impact, the 2010 Mercury Sedan erupted in flames. Mr. Holland sustained fatal injuries and expired at the scene of the crash.
