A house fire erupted today in the flood-ravaged Shore Acres neighborhood. The floodwaters have created a distinct hurdle for first responders, who must navigate the submerged area using small boats.
At around 9:45 a.m., St. Petersburg Fire Rescue received an alert about the emergency when a resident spotted flames in a home along Bayou Grande Blvd NE. With the neighborhood submerged due to the aftermath of Hurricane Idalia, the conventional firefighting methods proved ineffective. Negotiating waterlogged streets in small boats, St. Petersburg Fire Rescue managed to reach the fire location.
Action was taken to transfer the resident onto the responding boats and bring them to dry land, unharmed.
Firefighters have deployed specialized teams equipped to tackle the fire and prioritize the safety of both residents and first responders.
The situation is fluid, and responders are working diligently to gain control over the fire. They are exercising caution to prevent further harm and ensure the safety of everyone involved.
The origin of the fire remains unknown.
